Say “Goodbye” For New “Hello”

  Hi DJ Chloe, just need some advice for my situation right now.

  Just call me AC.

  My boyfriend and I broke up last week because of their family and also the culture. DJ Chloe, he is  Chinese. We all know naman na if Chinese, dapat mag-end up din na kalahi niya. Well, in my part I can’t really accept that fact.

  There is one time he went to me and then weird actions niya like hugging me for so tight. Then I asked him, if there is a problem. Sabi niya wala. Pero pinilit ko siya until I get to know the truth. Her mother asked to him to breakup with me, even his siblings. Then he asked a favor to his mom na kung puwede bigyan siya till December. Honestly, ‘di kami legal on his side. As much as possible, DJ Chloe, ide-delay niya’ yun at hangga’t kaya niya. I saw him crying a lot that time. It’s hard for him also. And also to me in a sense that I can’t do anything. I want him so much. We both love each other but the mere fact na ganun culture niya, it breaks me talaga. I can’t accept na ganito mag-eend ‘yung relationship namin that lasted for two years. Now, it’s a big adjustment for me because I always depend on him. He is my food buddy, travel, partner and everything.
  Akala ko sa movies or drama lang nangyayari ‘to. But it happened to me. Masakit lang talaga i-accept.
  Hope you give me some advice, DJ Chloe. Thanks a lot.

  Dear AC,

  Why can’t you accept that fact? It’s their culture, whether you accept or not, it won’t change anything. Your boyfriend is the only one who can change it. Defy the parents and marry you or follow the tradition.

  It seems that he chose to do the latter, and I can’t blame him.

  There is nothing you can do but to accept the fact that he did not make a decision to stick with you or choose you. The longer you don’t accept, the longer you can’t move on.

  Love is like that; you win some, you lose some.

  And just like how you fell in love with him, you will still find another person to fall in love with, to share your food with, and to share the road with.

  Some things end to give way for new beginnings.
