Basic reasons why employees quit their jobs

September 7, 2018

  • There is no perfect organization or company. Every employee’s decision to leave or stay in the company has factors to consider. May they be for good reasons or bad it will always depend on the employee’s perception, goals, and mind-set why they stay in or leave from an organization. Here are some of the basic reasons why employees quit their job.

    GREENER PASTURE

One of the best reasons why one must leave his/her current employer is because he/she has found a better opportunity to grow. Especially if it meant growth in experience and finances. There’s nothing wrong in leaving an organization just because one has found a greener pasture. Corporate leaders must be glad when their employees are progressing in their careers because it only means that their company has been a good ground for their people to excel and level up in their careers.

    FEELING UNDERVALUED OR UNIMPORTANT

Some employees leave their workplaces when they start to feel that the company doesn’t value them anymore. When an employee starts to feel that his/her work doesn’t get appreciated or recognized that’s the time that they feel left out. Recognition doesn’t always have to be incentive or promotion, recognition can be as simple as verbal complement or “good job.” When employees feel that their jobs are vital to the company, they become motivated and excel in what they do.

HAVING A BOSS AND NOT A LEADER

Every employee has someone to look up to. Most of the time they look up to the one who oversees them or the one who hired them. Some employees get out of their organization because they don’t find a leader in their boss. Instead, they see their superiors as someone they fear or someone who just gives them tasks and not really develop them to be leaders too. If they feel like their superiors are toxic already they get out of the company.

    LOW COMPENSATION

This is very usual. Sometimes this is the only major reason why employees quit their current organization. If their level of work doesn’t meet the compensation they get they would look for better opportunities so that their finances will get better. For some, this is one motivating factor why they stay in their company. Especially for the bread winners. They can’t stay on a job that only feeds and meets the needs of a single person. Compensation is considered a major factor.

    TOXIC ENVIRONMENT

Toxicity in a unit is inevitable. However, not all employees can handle this factor well. Besides getting the job done, it’s very important that employees get along with well with their colleagues. Some can’t handle it when they feel that their team doesn’t get their back. There are even situations when employees drag their selves to work not because of the stresses their work can bring but because of the people around them.

    UNAVAILABLE GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES

Employees find a reason to resign from the company where they belong when they see that there’s no opportunity for them to grow. Growth do not only mean promotion or salary increase. Most of the time it means learning more than what is required of them. Progress in knowledge and experience are one of the things employees look after in a company.

    WORK-LIFE IMBALANCE

This is very crucial especially for those who already have their own family. They have two jobs at the same time. They can’t stay on job that eats most of their time. They also have responsibilities at home that they must fulfill. However, as much as it’s crucial for people with family it is also crucial for the single ones. If their life goes around work only, most likely they will feel burnout or always exhausted. Sometimes exhaustion can lead to getting sick which can be a reason for them to quit.
