During our childhood, we love summer season because of the two months break from school. We love summer because we are going out of town, we go to beaches and places to have recreation. And of course in order to beat the heat, we are into some cold treats!

Here are some cold treats that you actually enjoy during your childhood days and most probably up to now!

    1. Ice Scramble

Are you the one who always craves for this especially when mid-afternoon comes in your street?

This kid favorite oink-colored ice scramble is topped with skimmed milk sometimes with chocolate or strawberry syrup. Nowadays, others put toppings such as wafers, chocolate bits, corn flakes, marshmallows and rice flakes.

    1. Ice Candy

This is one of the most popular cold treats during summer.

One reason may be is the fact that you can make this at home. Pour some flavor into the water, sealed it in ice candy-sized plastic wrappers, freeze for hours and you’re good to go.

This is also the cheapest and simplest Pinoy dessert that we can find in the community.

Before, it only sticks to two flavors: chocolate and mango. But today, through several considerations, numerous flavors have dominated the market.

    1. Sorbetes Ice Cream

The old school and delicious “sorbetes” or what so called “dirty ice cream.” One of the best thing about living here in Metro Manila is when you are expecting for a “manong sorbetero” passing by the community and sells his dirty ice cream.

With all kinds of ice cream from the groceries and convenient stores, it is good that we still cling to our native Pinoy taste where we enjoy sorbetes.

    1. Saging con Hielo and Mais con Hielo

These two summer quenchers are quite similar, the only difference is the ingredient featured at the top of the ice.

These kinds of dessert are made of sweetened banana or what so called “saging saba” and kernel corn.

    1. Halu-halo

This would be the most popular summer treat in the Philippines and your summer experience is not complete if you haven’t tasted the all-time favorite halu-halo.

From the term itself, “halu-halo,” meaning mixed, heterogeneously mixed to be exact.

The most common ingredients of halu-halo are nata de coco, sweetened banana, langka, corn, ube halaya, beans, gulaman, and topped with leche flan in a cup filled with ice and evaporated milk.

Generally, we Filipinos love to eat. Every season of the year, we have sets of food we love to eat and share. The best part of this is to enjoy everything that is served!
