American singer and songwriter Ava Max had a virtual sit down with DJ Shai!
On this exclusive interview, Ava and Shai talked about the history behind her name, her smash hit ‘Sweet but Psycho,’ and collab with Grammy-award winning DJ and producer, Tiësto.
First off, they talked about the story of Ava’s name. She shared that she has no middle name so she decided to give herself one when she was 14. “I want a middle name, so I went to court and I was like, call me Ava,” the singer said. “When I released ‘Sweet but Psycho’ I added Max because I kinda thought that Ava was just too short for just like one name, so I added a last name that I want something a little bit masculine to go with Ava,” she added.
The two also briefly talked about Ava Max’s rendition of Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl.’ When asked what made her chose to switch the song up abit: “I remember being in my parent’s house. I’m not anyone’s barbie girl. Then I started finishing it with my songwriter friends. Let’s make this a female anthem,” Ava said.
Ava Max exploded on a global scale with the 2018 triple-platinum smash ‘Sweet but Psycho.’ “I can’t still believe that song did what it did. It still gives me goosebumps thinking about how big it became. It became big overnight. People really resonate with that it because I think we are a little sweet but psycho,” the singer said.
Ava and Shai also talked about her latest collab with Grammy-award winning DJ and producer, Tiësto for the song ‘The Motto.’ “It’s fresh, I haven’t that before. I really wanted to do a song this different,” Ava said on the song.
To cap off their conversation, since the music video of ‘The Motto’ features a lot of time travel, Shai asked Ava, if she would be given the chance to time travel, when will she go? The singer unselfishly answered, “I have some relatives who have passed and I’d love to talk to them again.”
Ava Max was made known of her 2018 song ‘Sweet but Psycho’ which was streamed 2 billion times in 2020 and clinched a spot in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks.
