“Hindi kumpleto ang student life mo kung hindi kayo pumunta sa bahay ng kaklase niyo at nag-merienda ng pancit canton.”
This has been a very popular statement among a group of friends, most especially during class reunions. And no doubt, everyone will surely agree! From childhood to being a professional, pancit canton has always been part of our food selection. No wonder pancit canton is one of the go-to food of most of the students and professionals in town! It was, at some point, classified as the “Pambansang merienda” or “Pambansang midnight snack” because it really is!
Our elders would often say that instant pancit canton isn’t good for our health. But for some reason, we just can’t help it! Whether alone or with friends, pancit canton is indeed a top-tier merienda for us Filipinos.
Just recently, news about a well-known Pancit Canton came out! Ten European countries warned the people that the food safety authorities found ethylene oxide in a Filipino instant pancit canton spice mix. Ethylene oxide is a chemical that is commonly in a pesticide for plants and is a big no-no for people to eat.
This created a buzz in the Twitter world. A few days ago, the product makers released a public statement regarding the said issue. However, we just can’t get over what the Twitter people had to say when they first heard the news!
When we asked you to pick your poison, we weren’t expecting this answer…
