  • EASY ROCK - CHLOE'S INBOX - COMPARISON

    Dear DJ Chloe,

Never in my wildest dreams na maiisipan ko ding sumulat sa’yo. Pero andito po ako ngayon and about to share a little problem I have. ‘Di naman po siya major. I just want to ask if okay lang po bang umattend ako ng high school reunion namin this coming December? I don’t feel like attending po kasi because I really feel so unaccomplished. I am just an ordinary employee in a government agency and my husband, sad to say, ay matagal na pong unemployed at “houseband” lang siya. After 15 years, ni wala pa kaming sariling bahay at wala ding sariling kotse kahit second hand. I feel so unaccomplished na ang feeling ko po ay wala akong nakarating. The last reunion I attended, bag pa lang ng ibang ka-batch ko ay halos pang isang buwan o kaya isang linggo na naming grocery. Pupunta pa po ba ako?

    Liezel

    Dear Liezel,

Thank you for your letter. It’s very timely and I believe a lot of people will relate. Honestly, I also went through that kind of feeling. I believe, I chose not to attend the first two high school reunions of my alma matter because I felt unaccomplished. But you know what, who told you na wala kang na-accomplish? Your marriage is intact, that’s an accomplishment. Your only complain is your husband is a “houseband”. You didn’t complain he is womanizing or beating you up. He is gladly taking on the role your suppose to be doing. Minsan talaga mas maswerte ang babae sa career so I believe kailangan suportahan kayong mag-asawa. Husbands should also be supportive and willing to take on the responsibility of being in the house especially if the wife is the bread-winner. Nasa pag-uusap ‘yan.

As with the reunion, relax! It’s not a competition. One of the defining points of questions can be for former students to ask one another what they are doing. There are definitely going to be some reunion-goers who will be more successful than others, but don’t be resentful and define yourself as a failure because of that. This is your chance to network with former schoolmates. Hayaan mo silag magbag ng mamahalin. Gumamit ka ng proudly Philippine-made na abaca bag para maiba ka naman, okay? Once a year lang naman ‘yan so if you have the chance, go and have fun. Clean fun, alright? Live for your love.

    Good luck,

    Chloe
