Cole was raised in an environment that helped develop her singing ability. At a young age, she started to record songs with her father and began performing in different communities but when her father, Nat King Cole died of cancer, she took a break from singing to finish her studies.
Natalie made her comeback in singing in a restaurant called “The Pub” in Amherst, Massachussets in 1972. Three years later, she met Chuck Jackson and Marvin Yancy who helped her land a deal with Capitol Records.
A year after, she was able to release her debut album, ‘Inseparable’. Her single ‘This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)’ from the album exploded onto the music scene which grant her first two Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Best Female R&B Performance.
Cole was at the peak of her career throughout the ’70s. She was able to get four gold and two platinum records. Her song, ‘I’ve Got Love On My Mind’ from her third and platinum certified album ‘Unpredictable’, topped the different charts in the US.
In 1979, Cole was awarded her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame because of her significant contribution to the music industry.
In the early ’80s, her music career started to slow down due to drug addiction that resulted in parting ways with Capitol Records.

After spending six months in the rehab in 1983, she came back to recording songs which made her way in the charts again with her ’80s hit song ‘Pink Cadillac’.
From then, her career took ups and downs and in 1991, she was back at the top after releasing her debut album with Elektra Records ‘Unforgettable’ which featured renditions of songs recorded by his late father, Nat King Cole. ‘Unforgettable’ sold more than 7 million copies and gathered different awards including the most prestigious Grammy’s Album of the Year.
In 2008, Cole released ‘Still Unforgettable’ which won another Grammys for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.
