10 Kinds of People in a Samgyeopsal table

  • Filipinos love to eat. As days and years are passing through, we have seen so many food trends, surprisingly, people are patronizing these trends because of the distinct taste and satisfaction it can bring to them.

    Some of us love hamburgers, shawarmas, milk teas, frappes, coffee blends, pearl shakes, chicken wings, pizzas and ramen noodles. And now, no one can disagree that we are starting to love another food trends that comes from Korea—Samgyeopsal.

    Samgyeopsal is a well-known dish in Korea. It is usually served in the evening that consists of thick and fatty slices of pork belly meat. The good thing here is, the meat that is going to be shared is cooked on a grill on the table.

    The literal meaning of the term is three (sam; Korean: 삼(三)), layered (gyeop; Korean: 겹), flesh (sal;Korean: 살)”, which refers to the three layers of the dish.

    Here in the Philippines, as we are fascinated with the dish itself, of course, our friends never leave us with labels when we are around the table.

    Whenever we are eating together, we have different roles, that’s why we are giving you the 10 kinds of people in the Samgyeopsal table!

     

    1. The First Timer

    This guy knows nothing! He doesn’t cook. He doesn’t grill. He leaves side dishes!

    He often asks: “Pa’no ‘to?” “Luto na ba ‘to?” “Kailangan pa ba niyan?”

    All his expert friends will do everything just for him to learn the procedures. But the good thing is, he will not remain as first timer but soon to be an expert.

    1. The Cook

    This guy loves to cook—not just for himself, but for everybody.

    He is happy to serve all his companions around the table.

    You often see him handling the pair of tongs. He is credible to ask whether the meat is cooked already or not.

    That’s what he is doing all the time—cooking and grilling.

    1. The Eater

    Everybody is guilty of this. Those people who only loves to eat and eat.

    While the other guy loves cooking, this one is the person who enjoys to consume what his companion is cooking.

    He generously gives time to eat whatever he wants to eat.

    No doubt, almost all of your companions are just like that.

    1. Mr. Refill

    Well, it’s self-explanatory with who he is.

    He seems to be the coordinator between the waiter and the customers.

    He often ask for refill: “Kuya, refill na po!” “Pork pa!” “Waiter, refill ng beef!”

    With this guys, it is clear to him that everything is unlimited and refillable.

    1. The Birdy

    Read this very carefully: Don’t bring your birdy friend there!

    Kidding aside, what you will pay is soon to be wasted because of your friend who do not know how to live life to the fullest.

    It is your friend who happens to be easily full after eating a set of meal. Apparently, that guy will not enjoy the feast on the table. Mahina kumain in layman’s term!

    1. The Sulit King

    He is different from your birdy companion around the table.

    This guy will see to it that he will try his best to taste everything. His full stomach will bot hinder him eat as if it is the end.

    You will not regret that you bring him there because the payment is sulit when he starts to eat.

    1. The Korean Fanatic

    With the rise of Korean pop culture, here comes the Korean fanatics.

    Of course, they will earnestly patronize Korean foods. They love Korean songs and fashion.

    This one thing is for sure, they do know whether the Korean dish or ingredients are authentic or not.

    1. Kimchi Queen

    Their Samgyeopsal experience is not complete if there is no Kimchi available.

    Kimchi, a staple in Korean cuisine, is a traditional side dish made from salted and fermented vegetables.

    1. Rice Queen

    We all know that the staple food of Filipinos is rice. We eat rice three times a day and it is the source of our energy.

    That is why, rice queens cannot eat their samgyeopsal dish without their favorite rice.

    It’s quite funny that they almost consider the samgyeopsal restaurant like a popular fast food chain in the metropolitan offering grilled chicken and unlimited rice.

    1. The Samgyeopsal Fanatic

    After being so fascinated with all the Korean stuff, here comes the Samgyeopsal fanatics.

    With the emergence of this Korean food trend, fanatics tend to bring the grilling into their own houses by acquiring their own grille and there you go, homemade Samgyeopsal.
