4 Dishes That Will Make You Realize You’re Attending A Pinoy Gathering

Have you observed the parties that you went to lately? We wonder if you have seen the dishes below because if you do your host is truly Pinoy.

    1. PANCIT

So your cousin passed the board exam and someone from the family said, “Magluluto ako ng pancit!” Or it’s your dad’s birthday and he’s an overseas worker but you found your mom at the kitchen and she said, “Pagpapancit ko ang daddy mo.”

Whatever the event is, whether it’s thanksgiving, death anniversary, your baby cousin’s first step, you got exemption from your P.E. subject, pancit will always be present.

As they say, it symbolizes long life. But through the years pancit has represented events. It doesn’t have to be joyous or celebrating. Whatever the event is, pancit is the most default food.

    2.LUMPIANG SHANGHAI

Guess it’s one of the most flexible viands for Pinoys. It’s not everyone’s favorite but everyone eats it. Lumpiang shanghai is from the Chinese. It’s a mixture of pork with some veggies and spices. The mixture is rolled in a wrapper and deep fried.

Just like pancit, it is offered in all occasions and partnered with different dishes–with pancit, spaghetti, rice, soup, or whatever you like.

Some of the hosts consider this dish because of the kids. Instead of serving fried chicken, which is more expensive, they serve lumpiang shanghai.

    3. MENUDO

There’s something with menudo that when it’s not served it incompletes an event. It’s a must to serve this because there might be visitors stopping by for a heavy meal. Well, that’s the mantra of old people.

But today, menudo is served just because we are already accustomed to this. Who cares, anyway? We’re enjoying it.

    4. LECHE FLAN

    Have you heard these lines:

“Masarap ‘yung leche flan ni Tita Conching!”

“Favorite ko ‘yung kay Nanay Elsa.”

“Lagi akong bumilbili ng leche flan ni Tata Emong kasi sunog ‘yung gilid.”

There would always be that unconscious competition between friends, family and neighborhood who cooks leche flan best. It’s one of the most loved desserts. It’s special because the process of making one is a bit complicated.

You’d really know that you’re attending a Filipino party when the leche flan plate is changed every now and then.
