DOST confirms virgin coconut oil helps in COVID-19 relief

  According to cnnphilippines.com, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) reported the efficacy of virgin coconut oil (VCO) in treating symptoms of mild to moderate COVID-19 cases.

  They were able to get encouraging results based from the clinical trials conducted in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, and Valenzuela City.

  It was confirmed that VCO can significantly lower the C-Reactive Protein or CRP which is known to be the biomarker for the inflammation and infection.

  VCO products that were used in the study were provided by accredited VCO producers.

  “Ang VCO ngayon functional food approved by FDA, pero kung gusto natin maisama ‘yung indication na ‘may be used to relieve symptoms of mild and moderate COVID-19,’ kailangan pong mag-apply sila sa FDA,” said DOST Undersecretary Rowena Guevara.

  This study is a sequel of the one DOST conducted in 2020. This confirmed that a ‘direct intake’ of virgin coconut oil results in the faster resolution of mild to moderate symptoms in a controlled group.

  This new development proved that VCO is safe and effective in treating COVID-19 symptoms. This can also help boost the VCO industry.
