  • If you and your friends are up to macho-size serving and flavorful dish on a lunch time or even after work, then there’s a good place for you and your amigos!

In a corner in Makati, a restaurant named “Gringo”, which has siblings in SM North, BGC, and SM Megamall, opens at 11am and serves Mexican-Latin dishes. And before you have violent reactions, because we know that you’re thinking of spices and herbs, Gringo is well-blended with Pinoy tastebuds!

Gringo is just eight months old but is already around the metro specifically on places where there are millennials and young professionals. Just a quick story about their store in Makati, Team Easy Rock got there around 2pm, that’s past lunch time. The resto is jam packed with office peeps and the line waiting outside was long. Yep! That’s how busy Gringo is on a regular day!

From their chicken, to their baby back ribs, and to their nachos, everything is in macho-size. If you’re not a macho eater, then you’ll think that the dishes are good for sharing.

For starters, they served a tray of nacho grande. And if you’ll eat everything in the tray you won’t be needing anything, promise. Because it’s so heavy that it can be a meal. Actually, their marketing staff told us that on meetings each of them orders a tray of nachos and that’s it. That’s their meal. So, yeah. You can’t eat everything on it if you still have plans to eat chicken and ribs.

Their nacho grande is made up shredded chicken, garlic sauce, tomatoes, cheese, and whatever secret ingredient they have! Partner it with their home-made lemon herb sauce, we bet that you won’t stop ’till the last piece of the crunchy nacho.

Five thumbs up for nacho grande because it is to-die for! And it’s not a joke that of all the nachos that you have tasted in your life time, this is one of the bests! Gringo’s nacho grande and their lemon herb sauce are one of the reasons why you should look for the nearest Gringo in your place.

We got to taste their street tacos, porky pork belly and latin salpicao. Porky pork belly tacos is like lechon kawali or small pieces of bagnet on tacos. Latin salpicao is also the same, it’s like having an ulam on your taco.

They also serve crispy chili con carne tacos which is the tacos we know. But the difference with Gringo’s is that their version is more flavorful and the cheese is overloaded!

Of course, burritos won’t be out of the menu!

Don’t forget the secret: lemon herb sauce. It will make you eat the whole thing without slowing down. Promise. This is perfect for a merienda with your amigos. Yep, we recommend to partner it with beer.

    SOMETHING FOR SHARING

Don’t leave Gringo if without tasting their garlic butter crab. Your amigos would surely love getting dirty at the sight of lemon garlic butter crabs! Indeed, when you start eating it, no regrets! It’s the best version of the crabs you’ve eaten. The good thing about this is that Gringo won’t serve slim crabs! They’re serving macho crabs! Aligue and crab meat overload it is! But we say, be careful, okay? Don’t forget to drink green tea after to melt all the carbs.

Your amigos will also love the crispy pork belly with mango salsa, especially if it’ll be served with beer. It’s actually a good pulutan. For your tito friends. Hehehe!

Are you a fan of catfish? Because we’re not. If you’ll see a catfish, it has whiskers. That’s why it’s creepy and it doesn’t feel right when you eat one like tilapia, bangus or galungong, right? But we promise, everything will change when your tongue meets Gringo’s crispy catfish salsa. It’s so crispy and it’s so delicious that it tastes like chicken. And you’ll crave for more. Yes! Because we finished one (we’re just three) and our boss, Mr. Edwin Montilla, ordered another one to take it home. It’s really delicious that you’ll be a fan of catfish afterwards. Don’t forget lemon herb sauce! That’s really heaven, men! Heaven! Promise! That’s why we’re giving five thumbs for crispy catfish salsa!

    SPECIALTY OF THE HOUSE

If it’s about chicken and ribs, Gringo got you!

What you will love about Gringo’s chicken is that they are the only resto who has that kind of chicken. Our team has tasted different chickens but Gringo’s has a trademark.

Same with their baby back ribs! You know it’s Gringo’s baby back ribs when  you don’t have to use a knife to eat it. Their ribs is so tender and hassle free! No knife needed! We tried it, we just used a fork and enjoyed the meal.

Their chicken and baby back ribs are best when partnered with lemon herb sauce and the sides they serve like butter corn, Mexican rice, and Smokey beans.

Gringo is a good place for foodies, YPs, and millennials who love to venture on food with twists. What’s good about Gringo is that their food has a trademark. They have this certain ingredient that is present in all of their dishes. Once you’ve recognize the taste, you know that it’s Gringo’s. Plus, their lemon herb sauce that fits all, as in all, the dishes they serve.

Gringo is for meat and macho eaters! Because you will really get what you’ve paid for. Overall, we’re giving Gringo four thumbs up!
