Qubiertos: Passing On Memories Through Food

With the number of Filipino-themed restaurants in the metro, it’ll be too common and risky to establish another one. But as for the team of Qubiertos Grill and Restaurant, they don’t only serve food but memories which is one of the trademarks of the Pinoy food hub.

Established three years ago in a little house setting in Quezon City, the founder of Qubiertos has only one aim: to bring families closer. It was not foresaw to be something big right away. It was only meant to be a venue to talk, plan, catch-up, and reminisce through our mothers’ traditional Filipino food with a twist of modern authenticity.

Now, Qubiertos is becoming present from north to south and even outside the metro–spreading lasting family bond through food.

Team Easy Rock had the chance to experience a lunch wrapped in childhood and family memories at one of its youngest branches that is in Better Living, Parañaque. And to our surprise, the owner of the branch was Princess Velasco’s father, Mr. Alfredo Velasco.

Princess is never new to Easy Rock family. The lunch was surely a reunion.

The usual family chit-chats pulled as we all settle in a table for lunch. For starter, Pinoy Nachos was served. When the nacho platter came in, it’s like your usual nachos for appetizer until it lands on your tongue. Instead of ground beef with dressings, the toppings were special sisig and dinakdakan. The spicy flavor and the sweet and sour taste of the dressing were combined perfectly. We didn’t get much because few pieces of it will make you full.

If you’re a fan of gata or coconut milk but do not have spicy taste buds, Qubiertos is the place. Two of their best sellers are laing and binagoongang bagnet. Both are cooked in gata and but the chili doesn’t kick in too much.

We are giving five stars for their laing because it’s the perfect laing that you want. The mixture of gata and siling labuyo are perfectly done. Plus, the leaves do not cause tongue itch.

By the way, do you know that Princess sometimes comes to Qubiertos to just eat laing and rice? Yes, that’s how delicious their laing is. #BabalikbalikanMo

Hands raised for their binagoongang bagnet because its crispiness was consistent, knowing that it was first served and the last dish we tasted. Thumbs-up!

We also had our #simotsarap moment with their bulalo! We just love how the veggies were not overcooked, and the traditional cooking of bulalo was delicately done; plus the original ingredients were really there. We just love it.

And for the highlight of our lunch… *drum rolls* boneless Cebu lechon and spicy lechon ribs! The whole team’s on cloud nine with just the sight of these two!

Two thumbs-up for their boneless Cebu lechon!

According to one of their staff, it was marinated with different Pinoy herbs and spices. With every slice, you can sense in your taste buds that there are unfamiliar Pinoy ingredients–ingredients that we do not use from day to day. However, it didn’t lose the authentic Filipino taste. Partner it with the original lechon sauce, for sure you’ll say, “rice, please!!!” *wink*

On the other hand, their spicy lechon ribs is something that you shouldn’t also miss. It’s your usual barbecue flavored ribs until you notice the spices sprinkled on it. And when you get to taste it, it is another dish that is authentically Pinoy!

What makes the dishes of Qubiertos exceptional is how purely Filipino they are. From its aesthetic presentation to its bang inside your mouth, it is Pinoy. The spices and herbs fused in whatever meat they use are well-blended.

Every gathering must come to an end just like in family reunions. But ours didn’t end it just like that. Team Qubiertos laid their best dessert which is suman crepe. It became our new favorite and one of the reasons why we know we’re coming back and feasting again.

Home will always be one of the best places we would like to go back to and cherish memories. As much as we wanted to stay, and as much as we wanted to share more stories over delicious food, we have to separate ways.

As Team Easy Rock bid goodbyes and exchange kisses and hugs with Qubiertos-Better Living staff and Velasco family, we have made and locked another memory in our hearts.

Qubiertos has given us more than sumptuous lunch but a chance to be reunited and prove that there’s no really place like home.
