Also, this isn’t the first time Sinigang and Bulalo were ranked as the best soups in the world. In 2022, Sinigang ranked the 7th best soup, while Bulalo in the 19th place. Hmm, no wonder!

When you think about the Philippines, one of the first things that come to your mind is the country’s history, which is very intriguing. But still, there is nothing better than Filipino food; most especially dishes like Sinigang ang Bulalo.

What is Sinigang and how is it made?

Sinigang is a Filipino soup dish known for its sour and savory taste. Traditionally, its soup is tamarind-based, which makes the dish sour. But now, most of us use the sinigang mix which is quicker and more convenient to use. This sour dish can be beef, pork, fish or shrimp with vegetables like okra, water spinach (kang kong), daikon (labanos), onions, and eggplant.

You can also switch the tamarind with guava, calamansi, or unripe mango, or even watermelon! You know, for a twist! It all depends on the cook’s preference. For additional spice, you can add Green long peppers (siling mahaba) for that extra “oooff!” Enjoy this dish with rice and for additional sauce, use soy or fish sauce with calamansi.

What is Bulalo and how is it made?

Bulalo is described as a traditional Filipino soup that is prepared by cooking beef shanks and marrow bones until the fat and collagen dissolve into the broth, resulting in a strong beefy flavor of the dish. This dish is considered a specialty of the Luzon region, where it is usually consumed during cold weather. According to Taste Atlas, this dish can be found in most upscale restaurants in the Philippines, due to the fact that beef shank and bone marrow are not among the cheapest cuts of meat in the country.

This dish is a light-colored simple stew which is traditionally prepared in a large pot with several vegetable options which includes potatoes, corn, chayote, bok choy, Chinese cabbage (pechay), and green beans.
