The Weeknd breaks record for most Spotify streams in a single day

Following the release of R&B artist Abel Telesfaye AKA The Weekend’s ‘Starboy’ has set the new record for most Spotify streams in a single day according to Billboard.
Spotify have confirmed that The Weeknd’s latest release ‘Starboy’ has broken the record for the most amount of streams on Spotify in a single day though streaming figures have not yet been released.
In a statement, Republic Records Chairman and Co-Founder Monte Lipman proclaimed that “Spotify’s continued support of The Weeknd has now reached historic proportions and also reinforces the tremendous growth of global streaming,” while Spotify Global Head of Creator Services Troy Carter concurred: “We’re proud to have partnered with The Weeknd, his management and Republic Records on a phenomenal album.”
Starboy was released debuted Nov. 25 via Republic Records, just a day after he debuted a short film called Mania featuring most of the album’s new music.
