Love And Standards

• Have you ever encountered the question: “What characteristics are you looking for in a man/woman?”

  We all have standards. We are always looking on certain things before we decide or before we get something. We always look on some things before we indulge ourselves into it.

  The same thing when we fall in love. They say that in love, there’s no standard, there’s no partiality. But for sure, you don’t want to be with someone who can’t meet certain characteristics or traits that you have set. You don’t want to end up with someone you can’t bear to be with.

  But life and love can be weird sometimes. It has its routes that you, yourself, can’t understand. It has ways that surprises you. And one day, you’ll just find yourself somewhere being comfortable with that unusual setup. One day, you’ll find yourself tucked with someone you never thought you’ll be okay to live life with.

  That’s how weird love is.

  We keep on making standards. We keep on evaluating if the person in front of us checks a lot of boxes in our list. We still weigh things even if our minds are already speaking to us that it’s okay. We keep on answering the “what if’s”. And all these things, unconsciously, make us miss what good the universe has set for us. We keep on looking on standards that we pass through the love that is designed for us.

  So, if that’s the case, do we have to stop putting on standards and just chase whatever love there is?

  No.

  We just have to be open. We just have to try sometimes if this love will work for us. We just have to weigh if the opportunity is for us. If you want someone who is very formal and proper, this time, why not be with someone who is okay with anything under the sun? Or that person who’s into adventure? Why not try someone who will bring your out of your comfort zone, someone who will make you see the world.

  And remember, you don’t have to grab every love that is set before you. You don’t have to grab every opportunity of dating or getting exclusive. Your heart will know if that love is yours. You will know if you have to pursue the love that is right before your eyes.

  Love will always find its way to you. You just have to be open to whatever the universe gives you. Remember, when you find the love that’s for you, you don’t have to go through process, you’ll just know it. Then it’s yours.
