US Visa applicants are now required to present their social media accounts

  It has been everyone’s dream to set foot on the country where dreams are made of – New York. Although New York is just one of the 50 states of the United States of America.

  To be able to set foot on the ultimate destination, first, you must secure a US visa. Processing one has been known to not be so easy. Oh well, we all know not worth having comes easy.

  Aside from the usual documents that you are supposed to present, you are now required to submit details of your social media accounts like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube among many others.

  According to Rappler, the US embassy’s visa application portal now asks: “Do you have a social media presence? Select from the list below each social media platform you have used within the last 5 years. In the space next to the platform’s name, enter the username or handle you have used on that platform. Please do not provide your passwords. If you have used more than one platform or more than one username or handle on a single platform, click the ‘Add Another’ button to list each one separately. If you have not used any of the listed social media platforms in the last 5 years, select ‘None.'”

  The department even said that their top priority is the national security when adjudicating visa applications, and every prospective traveler and immigrant to the United States undergoes extensive security screening. They are still constantly working to find mechanisms to improve their screening process to protect U.S. citizens while supporting legitimate travel to the US.

  The only ones exempted from providing their social media details are the ones who apply certain diplomatic and official visa types.
