Developing Story: Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” earned $41M, says prosecution

The opening of the trial against Katy Perry over copyright issues of her 2013 hit “Dark Horse” made claims that the pop superstar earned an accumulated amount of $41 million.
This figure will be the reference point of contention to determine how much will Perry and her collaborators owe Marcus Gray who made “Joyful Noise.”
“I don’t want to give away any spoilers here, but some of the costs, get ready to roll your eyes,” said Michael Kahn, legal counsel of Gray.
“What makes a Katy Perry song profitable? Katy Perry,” said Aaron Wais, defense attorney of Capitol Records which was alleged received $31 million income from “Dark Horse.”
While Perry’s lawyers said that “Dark Horse” only earned $3.2 million, $800,000 of which are costs.
“Dark Horse,” a hybrid of pop, trap and hip-hop which was a hit single by Katy Perry in 2013 within her album “Prism” alleged of having copyright infringements from the song “Joyful Noise.”
