Lea Salonga plays the villain in Sweeney Todd: The Demon of Fleet Street

  Tony award winner Lea Salonga will play the villain in the musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon of Fleet Street” according to Inquirer.

  Salonga will play the role of Mrs. Lovett, a murderous barber’s obsessive lover. She is also an accomplice to the barber’s serial killings. Salonga said on an interview, “I find it extremely liberating and fun portraying a villain… It would be interesting to step into the shoes of someone who would do such heinous things.”

  She drew inspiration from films like “Fatal Attraction,” and “Misery.” As an artist she thinks that it is important to be open to playing good and bad characters.

  Sweeney Todd the musical is directed by Bobby Garcia and with the musical direction of Gerard Salonga. It will run until October 27 at the Theater at Solaire.
