Pinoy rock band Juan Karlos and rap icon Gloc-9 released their black music video for “Sampaguita,” March 13, Friday.
The recently released song is intent for the common woes of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). Gloc-9’s storytelling was divided into three relevant chapters of an OFWs life abroad: bereavement or homesickness (pangungulila), hope (pag-asa) and parting off (paglisan).
The video highlighted a certain Jun Evangelista, a struggling worker in China, whose story evolved in his longing for her family in the Philippines. This became a dark turn after all the his come back became an opportunity for criminals to move. This also brought the longingness and loneliness feels that parents have while having work abroad.
“Sampaguita” was released last February 28 on numerous music streaming platforms.
