With the continuous threat of coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 and with the tight enforcement of the enhanced community quarantine over Luzon island because of the Red Alert sub-level 2, stricter implementation of travel restrictions is still imposed to international and domestic airports around the country.
In connection with the existing rules, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced that all remaining flights in Manila will operate only at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1.
In an advisory, MIAA stated that more airlines have suspended their operations in Manila due to suspected carriers of COVID-19 across the region.
Started at 12:01 AM of Saturday, March 28, 2020, the following airlines will operate to and from NAIA 1 until further notice:
1. Asiana Airlines
2. All Nippon Airways
3. Cathay Pacific
4. China Airlines
5. Eva Air
6. Gulf Air
7. Hong Kong Air
8. Japan Airlines
9. Jeju Air
10. Korean Airlines
11. Qatar Airways
Oman Air ceased their operations on March 26. Singapore Airlines and Royal Brunei had suspended operation in the country on March 29, until further notice.
The above-mentioned airlines continued their operations and commercial flights in Manila port given that they maintain the operability of the enhanced community quarantine.
As of March 30, 2020, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has recorded 16 commercial flights or 11 sweeper flights or flights accommodating the stranded passengers in several domestic airports. Since March 14, the beginning of the ECQ, only 693 passengers were transported through 416 flights.
On the other hand, in order to ensure that the transport of goods and medical supplies and equipment will be sustained, 51 cargo flights have been carried out.
As of this writing, the Philippines has recorded 2,311 confirmed cases of COVID-19 where 96 patients died and 50 patients have recovered.
