Find free shuttles using Google Maps

It was March 17, 2020 when several government agencies and some from the private sectors launch free shuttle services for all frontliners. It aims to ferry frontliners going to and from their respective workplaces after public transport was suspended by the government.
To help frontliners ease their struggle in discovering the free shuttle routes, the Department of Transportation has started collaborating with Google.

All frontliners within Metro Manila and adjacent provinces, with the use of their mobile phones, desktop computers and other gadgets, they can go online and launch Google Maps and refer to recommendations for the most efficient routes of DOTr’s free ride service from their place of origin to their destinations.
“Technology makes our lives easier. So, as we help provide our health workers with daily free rides, I am certain that partnering with digital technology will also make navigating routes the least of their worries. We want to make things easier for them, given the enormous tasks that they perform everyday,” DOTr secretary Arthur Tugade said.
At present, the department’s free ride for health workers has expanded to 19 routes across Metro Manila. And as of Tuesday, April 7, 2020, this program of the DOTr has transported 84,411 health workers, 31,188 of which came from Metro Manila and 53,223 came from regions outside the National Capital.

HOW TO DISCOVER THE FEATURE
To use the special feature of DOTr and Google Maps collaboration:
1. Launch Google Maps thru mobile phones or desktop computers.


2. Type and enter the desired destination.


3. Tap the “Directions” tab.


4. Then, select the public transit option which is train tab seen after the car and motorcycle icons.


5. When available, Google Maps will immediately list up route recommendations that plies through DOTr’s hospital shuttle service.
