Universal Records Philippines denies involvement in “Iisang Dagat” track

• The Universal Records Philippines has dissociate itself from the controversial “Iisang Dagat” track trying to convey solidarity between China and the Philippines amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

  In a statement posted on their Facebook page, April 27, the record label stated that they declined the invitation from Chinatown TV, a Filipino-Chinese lifestyle show, to promote the song. Universal Records also clarified that the mention of their record label in the caption was posted without their consent.

  “Universal Records Philippines would like to clear that we are not in any way involved in the track ‘Iisang Dagat.’ Contrary to what is included in the YouTube caption, the company did not participate in the production and promotion of the said song,” the record label said.

  “Iisang Dagat” was co-produced by the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines, Chinatown TV and Guizhou Xinpai Media Company. The lyrics was written by Chinese ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian.

  The song also drawn ire due to disputed West Philippine Sea and the participation Camarines Sur vice governor Imelda Papin.

  As of this writing, the YouTube video has drawn an online outrage having 172,882 dislikes and more than 25,000 comments.
