Online contest “The Pop Stage” winner CJ Villavicencio has spoken up on the alleged plagiarism of the musical piece “Ang Huling El Bimbo,” August 5, Wednesday.
On his Facebook account, Villavicencio released a statement after his piece earned many criticisms for the resemblance of its concept and arrangement to “Ang Huling El Bimbo.” Ely Buendia and musical director Myke Solomon were among those who commented.
“I was hurt and it also aches my heart to unintentionally hurt some people as well, especially the production team of Ang Huling El Bimbo The Musical. There was no intention whatsoever on my part to plagiarize. I am sorry if I caused undue distress, seemed disrespectful or if I have hurt the theater community,” Villavicencio said in a post.
On August 2, Villavicencio has performed a medley of Eraserheads songs for the finals of the contest and he won PhP 1 million in cash a contract with Viva Artists Agency.
