Filipino band named MYMP or ‘Make Your Momma Proud’ has received resentment from netizens over blackface makeup costume of guitarist, October 31, Saturday.
On their live-streamed show on October 30, guitarist Jacques “Chin” Alcantara was seen in a blackface makeup as if he’s a Black man.
After the netizens called their attention and told he was out of costume, Alcantara called the Black Lives Matter movement non-sensical. “Kasi sini-single out ninyo lang eh. Of course, ‘yung lives din natin nagma-matter. Wala naman kasi dapat kulay. All lives matter,” he said in defense.
Black Lives Matter is a political and social movement that campaigns against violence and racism toward Black people. It’s popularity started in 2013 for using the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter on social media.
