A celebration of the Filipino Christmas spirit

  A distinct Filipino Christmas tradition was featured in the latest advertisement of Disney for the holiday season and it touched the heart of every Filipinos here and across the globe.

  Disney launched its first-ever Christmas advertisement and to everyone’s surprise, it was a Filipino-themed 3-minute video.

  The Christmas ad was set in 1940s and featured a grandmother and her apo making a parol or a star-shaped lantern which is very unique and a known Christmas symbol in the Philippines together.

  Aside from this, a Mickey Mouse stuffed toy was also featured and was passed on from one generation to another. Pamana or the passing down of items from one generation to another which has always been a part of the Filipino family tradition was also seen in the ad.

  Christmas has been one of the most favorite holiday being celebrated in the country. You can start to feel the Christmas spirit once the -ber months has begun.

  Starting September, Filipinos start to feel the spirit of Christmas. From the Christmas decors, to the Christmas shopping here and there, the celebration literally lasts for  months!

  Disney’s advert has made everyone feel the spirit of Christmas no matter where they are and most of them missed everyone from their families and even their hometowns.

  There are a lot of ways to celebrate Christmas, but Filipino Christmas celebration has been one of the warmest and most special for it roots down to close family ties.
