Walled City Intramuros acclaimed as World’s top tourist attraction

The World Travel Awards has named the walled city of Manila, Intramuros, as the 2020’s leading tourist attraction in Asia and in the world.
The Intramuros Administration has welcomed this newest given to the historical place in the heart of the city.
“After months of online voting, our beloved Walled City bagged the coveted recognition while competing with equally beautiful monuments and sites in Asia,” the agency wrote on Facebook.
“Intramuros as a prime tourist destination has been reinvented and continuously improved for the benefit of the visitors and the community. Through inclusivity and sensitivity to the needs of its people, Intramuros has become a model for heritage tourism and community development. Our noble and every loyal city truly deserves such recognition,” they added.

Aside from this award, this year, the Department of Tourism is hoping for the remaining nomination that the country have under World Category, namely:
-World’s Leading Beach Destination 2020: Philippines
-World’s Leading Dive Destination 2020: Philippines
-World’s Leading Island Destination 2020: Siargao
-World’s Leading Tourist Board 2020: the Philippines, Department of TourismTourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat was also thankful for the accolades given to the Philippines. “These recognitions are certainly an inspiration to the industry as we safely and gradually reopen our destinations for tourism. These would not be possible without the combined efforts from our tourism stakeholders, local government units, partner agencies, and our fellow Filipinos who have tirelessly promoted our country’s attractions, products, and culture,” she said.

Established in 1993, The World Travel Awards is celebrating its 27th anniversary this year. The award-giving body acknowledges, celebrates and rewards outstanding performances on travel, tourism and hospitality industries.
This award shall be a call, not just to every Filipino, but to all tourists that every location we come into, all places with historical, cultural and natural values, should be respected, preserved and perpetuated at all times.
