  • Elton John has expressed dismay to the Vatican after it declared the Catholic Church “cannot bless” same sex unions, March 16, Tuesday.

On his Twitter account, John said, “How can the Vatican refuse to bless gay marriages because they “are sin”, yet happily make a profit from investing millions in “Rocketman” – a film which celebrates my finding happiness from my marriage to David?? #hypocrisy.” He both tagged the Vatican media and Pope Francis, and shared screenshots of the news.

John found the statement hypocritical mentioning the Vatican invested millions in his biopic ‘Rocketman’ in 2019.

On Monday, the Holy See’s top doctrinal office, Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, declared, “The blessing of homosexual unions cannot be considered licit.” God “does not and cannot bless sin,” the statement added. The declaration was later approved by Pope Francis.

Elton John, 73, was known for his stands for the benefit of the members of the LGBTQIA+. He was married in 2014 to his long-time partner David Furnish.
