Singer Selena Gomez has called out Facebook and Instagram for allowing the spread of vaccine misinformation in the social media platforms, July 21, Wednesday.
On her Twitter account, Gomez once again tagged Facebook and Instagram about her tweet in December 2020 where she asked the two social media platforms to take action on lies about COVID-19 and vaccines.
In that tweet, she also shared a video of Center for Countering Digital Hate in which CEO Imran Ahmed talked to BBC News about the dangers of vaccine misinformation. “Scientific disinformation has and will cost lives,” she wrote.
With this new thread, the singer even tagged United States of America president Joseph Biden and Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy stating that the two officials had called for actions. “So why do they still refuse to act?” Gomez said.
On their April 2021 circular, the World Health Organization has considered misinformation in the time of COVID-19 as ‘infodemic.’ Their research said that nearly 6 000 people around the globe were hospitalized, and 800 may have died because of coronavirus misinformation.
