An anti-vaccine folk singer in Prague, Czech Republic has died after she deliberately contracted COVID-19, her family confirmed, January 18, Tuesday.
Hana Horka, 57, who was the vocalist for the band Asonance, voluntarily exposed herself to the virus to obtain a health pass in order to be allowed to visit the sauna and theater.
Due to Omicron variant surge, Europe has been facing a soaring COVID-19 cases for the past month. To mitigate the situation, proof of vaccination or recent infection is required to access cultural and sports facilities as well as for travel and for visiting bars and restaurants in the EU member state.
“She decided to continue to live normally with us and preferred to catch the disease than to get vaccinated,” her son Jan Rek said on a public radio in Prague.
Two days before Horka died, she posted on social media, saying, “I survived… It was intense. So now there will be the theater, sauna, a concert… and an urgent trip to the sea.”
Horka’s husband and son were both vaccinated. Her son blamed her death on a local anti-vax movement that convinced her to avoid vaccination.
