Pop icon Mariah Carey is being sued for 20 million dollars over her 1994 Christmas smash hit ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ according to BBC News.
In a complaint filed in New Orleans by musician Andy Stone, he is seeking at least 20 million damages from the pop singer, her co-writer and label Sony Music Entertainment for copyright infringement. Stone said that he co-wrote a song with the same title five years earlier and never gave permission for it to be used, arguing that Carey exploited his popularity and style.
Stone first contacted Carey in April 2021 but were ‘unable to come to any agreement.’
‘All I Want for Chrismas Is You’ has topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart every year since 2019. The song also was Carey’s 19th no. 1 song.
