English ‘80s pop singer Rick Astley recreated his iconic “Never Gonna Give You Up” music video from 1987 for a CSAA (California State Automobile Association), a car insurance company advertisement.

The remake shows the same looks, wardrobe, moves, and sets. As promotional twists, the commercial added insurance company workers dancing alongside. It also shows the pop star’s clones in different outfits initially worn in the music video.

July 27 marked the 35th anniversary of the song and the music video. Astley expressed, “Paying homage to my video for the AAA Insurance commercial — from the set to the wardrobe — has been an amazing trip down memory lane.” He said, “The song has been so good to me, and I’m thrilled to be working with another iconic brand that has certainly stood the test of time.”

The famed video is also used as a prank among netizens as part of the meme culture – known as “Rickrolling.” Being “Rickrolled” would mean being click-baited or disguised hyperlinks into the music video. Even Astley himself became a victim of this internet phenomenon. This led to its views garnering 1.2 billion views as of today.

“Never Gonna Give You Up” became the lead single from Rick Astley’s debut album, “Whenever You Need Somebody.”
