It’s never a non-musical moment with the Philippine Madrigal Singers.

On September 6 – the sudden musical break-out of the University of the Philippines Diliman choir Philippine Madrigal Singers (also known as Madz) at the “Ishiaya’s Garden Bistro” in Tabaco City, Albay, hit virality on Facebook.

It began when the owner, Aya Medel, actress-turned-chef, informed the Madz that their leftovers were still being wrapped by the staff. In the said video, the Madz, then, stood up and sang the ever-iconic Sharon Cuneta OPM song “Bituing Walang Ningning.” Medel is a former actress known for her films in the ’90s to early 2000s, and left the showbiz industry to pursue a culinary career and put up her restaurant in her hometown in Albay.

Part of the lyrics sing, “Balutin mo ako sa hiwaga ng iyong pagmamahal…” For starters, this part of the song is derived from Filipino humor – where the line is commonly used in Pinoy culture of taking home food from a celebration or gathering. After all, the joke doesn’t go too far from the backstory of the viral video!

Dee Jai (the uploader) mentioned that numerous netizens were amazed by the goosebumps-inducing acapella performance of the choir – and one of which is the actress-turned-restauranteur herself. Medel quoted, “Thank you for the unexpected serenade. We are blessed to hear and witness it. Nakakatindig balahibo at tagos sobra sa puso.
