He also added in a separate post, “I made the #Top12 of @americanidol There’s no voting tonight but get ready to support me again next Sunday! It’s the first live coast-to-coast vote! Thank you so much for helping me to this point!”A lot of Filipinos have participated in the well-known singing competition on TV; for instance, Filipino-Mexican performer Jessica Sanchez almost won the show in 2012 and made it to the Season 11 finale. So far, Tyson has been doing exceptionally well in the current season; he earned Season 21’s first platinum ticket with his performance of Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind” during his audition in Las Vegas. (The Platinum ticket is only awarded to one contestant in each of the three audition cities and allows them to skip the first round of performances.)
The show even dubbed his rendition as “The BEST.”
Venegas has prior experience in participating in singing competitions; in 2020, he took part in “The Voice Teens Philippines” and was selected for the battle round under the guidance of Black Eyed Peas member apl.de.ap’s team. However, his participation was cut short due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, and he had to leave the show before the “Knockout” rounds.
For his performance, he sang his rendition of “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” by Elton John and George Michael. Watch the song number below:
