Chloe’s Inbox – Your sibling is your instant best friend

  My name is Troy, DJ Chloe. 28 years old from Malabon City. Paborito ko pong pakinggan ang programa niyo together with my younger sister. Dalawa na lang po kami sa buhay simula nu’ng mawala ang parents namin dahil sa isang car accident. My younger sister was so devastated that time and just to make her happy, I tried to give everything she wanted. Pero DJ Chloe, simula nu’ng nag-high school siya, nag-iba na rin po ang kilos niya. Madalas po ay madaling-araw na siya kung umuwi at puro barkada ang kasama. Naaapektuhan na rin po ang grades niya dahil dito. Ayoko naman po siyang pagalitan dahil baka lumayo ang loob niya sa akin. I understand that she’s just hitting puberty but to be honest, I really don’t know how to handle it. I don’t think I can be an older brother, a mother to her, and a father at the same time. Ano pong gagawin ko, DJ Chloe?  I really love my sister at ayoko pong maligaw siya ng landas.

  Talk to her. Some kids her age won’t be confrontational because ganun talaga sila, ayaw nilang na sisita. But since you’re the older one, she is really your responsibility.

  Try mong higpitan or bawasan ang allowance, pag may pera ang daming naiisipan gawin niyan. Give her only something that’s enough for food and commute.

  Try mo din bigyan ang curfew, daanin mo sa maayos na pakiusap, tell her ‘di ka makatulog hanggang wala siya. ‘Yan ang mahirap sa ibinibigay lahat, hindi pagmamahal ang magbigay ng lahat, naging mali ko din ‘yan. I thought if I give in, mapupunuan ang absence ko. Pero mali pala. They don’t need everything.  They just need our presence in their lives. Be there for her most of the time. Baka masyado ka na rin busy, akala mo okay lang na wala ka dahil nakakapagprovide ka.
