Several days after the news escalated that she was seriously sick, the ‘Queen of Soul’ Aretha Franklin has died of advanced pancreatic cancer. She was 76.
Surrounded by her family and friends, Franklin passed away 9:50 AM of August 16, 2018 (US Time) at her house in Detroit.
“In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart. We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family. The love she had for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins knew no bounds,” official statement said.
Franklin’s official cause of death was confirmed by the oncologist of Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit, Dr. Philip Phillips.
She was called “Queen of Soul” for her gospel-rooted singing and bluesy and expansive delivery of songs.
