Korean boy group BIGBANG’s Daesung has left YG Entertainment after 16 years.
On Monday, December 26, the multinational entertainment agency announced, “Daesung has decided to end his contract with us,” adding, “He’s looking for a fresh start.”
YG Entertainment, however, emphasized that while Daesung was leaving the record label, he still remains a member of the iconic K-Pop group.
“The fact that Daesung is a BIGBANG member has not changed,” the agency stated. “We support Daesung’s choice and new start, and we are always open to cooperating with him.”The news came shortly after his bandmate Taeyung signed with YG affiliate THEBLACKLABEL.
T.O.P left YG Entertainment after his contract expired earlier this year. Meanwhile, G-Dragon’s contract renewal is still in talks.
BIGBANG made their debut in August 2006 as a five-member group. The group’s hits include “BANG BANG BANG,” “Fantastic Baby,” “Loser,” “Fxxk It,” and “Haru Haru,” among others. MADE, their most recent album, was released in 2016.
The K-pop legends returned to the music scene in April with the release of their new single “Still Life.”
“Still Life” was BIGBANG’s first group release since their digital single “Flower Road” in March 2018. Seungri has since left the group and retired from the entertainment industry, while the rest of the members, G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, and Daesung, have all completed their mandatory military service.
