Broadway composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim has died early Friday at the age of 91, his publicist confirmed, November 26.

The musical legend has died at his home in Roxbury, Connecticut, his spokesperson Kathryn Zuckerman told Reuters through email. Little information was shared, she added. He was reported celebrating Thanksgiving with friends the day before.

The UK-based Stephen Sondheim Society mourns his passing. “There are no words. He had them all. And the music. He was incomparable. He was God to many of us. We loved his work. And god he was good.” The group said in a statement.

Stephen Sondheim was known for his art on the musical theater. His notable works were ‘Into the Woods,’ ‘Sweeney Todd,’ and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.’ Sondheim has eight Tony Awards for his lyrics and music, which surpassed the total of any other composer.
