EDM duo The Chainsmokers ‘Closer’ featuring Halsey ties for the second longest no. 1 on Pop Songs Chart according to Billboard.
The hit song leads the chart for an 11th week, the second-best reign the chart’s 24-year history & the longest since 2005.
“The song just has that monstrously mesmerizing and sticky hook that you know within seconds of the first listen,” Erik Bradley, music director and assistant program director of Pop Songs panelist WBBM Chicago, says of “Closer,” which topped the all-genre airplay/sales/streaming-based Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks — the longest command of 2016. It leads the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart (dated Dec. 17) for a 16th week and the all-format Radio Songs list for a 10th frame.
The current record holder for the most time spent on top of the Pop Songs Chart remains the Ace of Base’s ‘The Sign’ which topped for 14 weeks at no. 1 in 1994.
