R&B singer Chaka Khan and her sister have entered rehab to battle their addictions to prescription pain medication according to The Huffington Post.
The 63-year-old Grammy-winning singer said she has been battling to the same medication that led to Prince’s death which motivated her to seek treatment. Prince was found dead in his home in Minnesota due to overdose of fentanyl, an opioid painkiller.
“Unfortunately, I will miss concert appearances over the summer,” Khan said. “However, it’s vital that I put my health and well-being first. I know that I am disappointing some of my fans, but I also know they would want me to recover and be well and healthy.”
A rep for the singer said Khan has struggled with prescription pain medication dependence and has “voluntarily entered” a treatment program “to get healthy and stay that way.” Her rep added that she will be able to resume recording in mid-July and will be back on tour on Aug. 1.
Khan covered Prince’s song “I Feel For You,” which became one of her biggest hits. The two were longtime friends.
