  • Frontman of OPM band Parokya ni Edgar’s Chito Miranda has expressed on social media that the current generation is the “Golden Age” of OPM.

Miranda compared how OPM artists were being underpaid during the ‘90s.“Pero nu’ng time na ‘yun, we were all underpaid, hati hati kami sa isang hotel room, kadalasan walang decent backstage or dressing room, ‘di maganda ‘yung soundsystem… the singer said in his post.

“Maraming nagsasabi na Golden Age ng OPM ‘yung ’90s. Sobrang saya naman kasi talaga nu’n ’90s dahil sa Eheads, Rivermaya, PNE, Siakol, Color It Red, Teeth, Wolfgang, Yano, Razorback, Alamid, Youth, Grin Dept, at napakarami pang iba…at kahit saan ka kasi magpunta, maririnig mo ‘yung kanta ng mga banda,” Chito said.

The PNE vocalist added that in today’s technology you no longer need to find a producer to create music compared to the ‘90s where you needed to find a music label to produce your songs.

He also commended that music festivals also helps OPM to have a platform to perform and introduce new music to fans. “Sobrang ganda na ng mga Music Festivals, with kids actually buying tickets, backed up by major sponsors, sobrang ganda ng mga stage, and world class ‘yung soundsytem, naka-business class na palagi… wala kaming ganito nu’ng 90s.”

Among the artists Chito mentioned in his post were bands Ben&Ben and December Avenue, singer Zac Tabudlo, hip-hop artist Flow G, and super P-pop group SB19.
