Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and the singers of Wham! paid tribute to the late singer George Michael during the 2017 BRIT Awards according to the Rolling Stone.
Andrew Ridgeley, Michael’s partner on Wham! along with their backup singers Pepsi and Shirlie came onstage to eulogize the legendary singer.
“On Christmas Day 2016, the greatest singer-songwriter of his generation, an icon of his era, and my beloved friend, George Michael, was lost,” Ridgeley said.
Ridgeley, Helen DeMacque (Pepsi) and Shirlie Holliman (Shirlie) relieved their personal memories of Michael. “George’s contribution to the great archive of contemporary music rests alongside the immortals,” Ridgeley added. “His is a legacy of unquestionable brilliance and one that will continue to shine and resonate for generations to come.”
After Wham!’s eulogy, Chris Martin took the stage to sing Michael’s ‘A Different Corner’.
The screen behind Martin’s singer projected Michael who took over singing the song. Through some immaculate timing, Martin and the projected Michael duet for the remainder of the tribute.
