Singer-songwriter Don McLean has humbly accepted defeat after Taylor Swift‘s ‘All Too Well’ dethroned ‘American Pie’ as longest top hit, November 25, Thursday.
Billboard announced on Monday, November 22, that ‘All Too Well’ with 10 minutes and 13 seconds overtook ‘American Pie’ which had a long-undefeated record with 8 minutes and 42 seconds long.
“There is something to be said for a great song that has staying power. ‘American Pie’ remained on top for 50 years and now Taylor Swift has unseated such a historic piece of artistry,” McLean explained that he is honored to lose the spot to the 31-year-old pop star.
McLean even called Swift as great singer and songwriter. “Let’s face it, nobody ever wants to lose that #1 spot, but if I had to lose it to somebody, I sure am glad it was another great singer/songwriter such as @taylorswift13,” he said.
