English singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran revealed in a recent radio interview that Justin Bieber’s smash hit ‘Love Yourself’ which he co-penned was originally written for his upcoming album ‘Divide’ according to Billboard.
“That was a song I had written for ‘Divide’. It just wouldn’t have made it,” Sheeran explained in an interview. “And then Justin took it and did his thing on it, and released it as a single and made it what it is. So going from a song that would have never been released to [being] the biggest song of last year — it just became Billboard‘s #1 of 2016 of the whole year, and [was] nominated for Song of the Year at the GRAMMYs — it just shows you that you shouldn’t always write stuff off,” the singer added.
Sheeran did not elaborate on what kind of touch Bieber had on the song, but the ‘Thinking Out Loud’ singer made sure to give Justin Bieber some credit, “Justin did have input on it, I wouldn’t say it was just all me.”
Last week, Sheeran released two new songs: ‘Castle on the Hill’ and ‘Shape of You’ which both rocketed to top of Itunes and Spotify.
Sheeran has not yet announced a release date for his upcoming album ‘Divide’.
