Gigi de Lana releases debut single, relates life experiences to song

• Vocalist and songwriter Gigi de Lana has released her debut single entitled ‘Sakalam,’ October 11, Monday.

  A reverse play of the word, ‘malakas,’ the track is a power rock ballad that tackles about someone’s struggles on letting go of a relationship where someone is already emotionally detached. The song was written and composed by Erwin Lacsa and Romeo Marquez and arranged by Jon Cruz.

  The five-minute music video was directed by Chad Vidanes. It also featured actor Markus Paterson and de Lana’s band Gigi Vibes.

  “I must admit that, as a singer, there were inevitable moments when I didn’t really feel a song. Sometimes, when I get too tired, I’m unable to fully analyze a song’s meaning. But Sakalam is something I can easily relate to because of my experiences in life,” she said in a recent virtual conference.

  The 25-year-old music artist gained prominence when she joined ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ segment of a noon time show in 2016. Recently, she has gained millions of viewers with her virtual live performance and covers of well-loved local and foreign songs.
