Janet Jackson took home the BMI Icon Award

  Multiple award-winning superstar Janet Jackson got the highest honor of BMI Icon Award for being the most influential entertainer of all time according to Billboard.

  BMI Awards is an annual award ceremony for songwriters in various genres organized by Broadcast Music, Inc. It honours songwriters and publishers.

  The night started with a special tribute for the late Aretha Franklin who has been a part of the BMI family for 50 years. They also featured notable tribute performances by H.E.R, Normani and Justine Skye. A steamy rendition of Jackson’s hot song “I Get Lonely” closed out the performances.
