Tony award-winning singer actress Lea Salonga has been continuously recognized not just in the Philippines but also internationally because of her talent as an actor and a singer.
Many believe that because of her talent, it is not possible for her to be one of the National Artists in the Philippines.
During an interview, Lea Salonga herself said, “Ay, I don’t know, ayaw kong isipin kasi hindi naman ‘yun ang nagiging motivation for me to do what I do. It’s never it, it should not be it. Kung mangyari, good, kung hindi mangyari, also good.”
The singer expressed how happy she is for the newly hailed National Artists. “I’m glad that there are still artists recognized for the bread of their work, sa lawak ng kanilang naging contribution to Philippine culture via whatever their artistic field happens to be. I was ecstatic for Larry Alcala who is included this year, and Tito Bobby Mañosa [Francisco Mañosa]. So I’m glad that it’s still going, na kahit papaano our artists that have done so much for our country have been recognized,”
She is still positive that the perfect time will come for the “Superstar” Nora Aunor to be included as one of the National Artists. “It will happen… Maybe not in this administration but it will happen because you cannot deny her body of works.”
