Music legend Melba Moore set to receive Hollywood Walk of Fame star

    The Tony Award winner, multiple lifetime achievement honoree, boundary-breaking Broadway star, and hit recording artist Melba Moore is set to receive the 2,760th star on the illustrious Hollywood Walk of Fame on August 10, 2023. The prestigious honor comes as a well-deserved recognition of Moore’s exceptional contributions to Live Theater and Performance, solidifying her legacy in the hearts of admirers worldwide. The star will be proudly unveiled at 1645 Vine Street, a hallowed location near the iconic Hollywood & Vine corner, steeped in historical significance.

    This Hollywood Chamber of Commerce event serves as a testament to the cultural significance of the Hollywood Walk of Fame since 1960. More so, the event promises to be a star-studded affair, with esteemed guest speakers gracing the stage, including the Emmy-winning Sheryl Lee Ralph, the comedic sensation Katt Williams, and the veteran R&B hitmaker, Freda Payne.

    Ana Martinez, Walk of Fame Producer, expressed: “We are immensely proud to honor Melba Moore, (whose) magnificent 5-octave voice has graced a multitude of musical genres. Not just an entertainer, she’s an activist and trailblazer, leaving an indelible mark on the world of arts and beyond.” She added, “Her loyal fans will undoubtedly gather in admiration on the day of the ceremony, celebrating the recognition of this musical gem with a well-deserved Walk of Fame star.

    Melba Moore, hailing from Harlem and raised in Newark, New Jersey – made history by starring as Fantine in the renowned production of “Les Misérables.” Her powerful rendition of the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice,” earned a place of utmost honor in the Congressional Record, signifying it as an invaluable American Oral Treasure.

    With a Tony Award under her belt, her exceptional vocal prowess has earned her four Grammy nominations in diverse musical genres, including Contemporary Soul/R&B, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Gospel, and Classical music. Through her remarkable contributions to the arts, she stands as a testament to the triumph of talent and determination in the face of challenges.
