The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) has released a statement over the “Panalo” song of the rapper EZ Mil, February 10, Wednesday.
NHCP stressed that they recognize the emergence of new songs that inform Filipinos of their history, but accuracy is of primary importance.
“Let us not compromise our history and be conscious of our accountability on what we are conveying to our people. Lapu-lapu was definitely not killed in the Battle of Mactan. The battle was a victory of our ancestors led by him.” The agency said in the statement.
The mayor of Lapu Lapu City in Cebu has also expressed dismay to the song and described it as “big insult.”
