THEY’RE BAAACK! 😱😭❤️
If within the last five and a half years, you experienced the following – fear of going out, (righteous) rage, confusion on selfishness and self-preservation, apathy, cabin fever, (deep-seated) vengefulness, moral superiority, dissociation, disassociation, revelation, nostalgia (for things you’ve not yet experienced and did not know you wanted to), and resignation – then, this might be the album you’re looking for!
On February 10, after a 5-year hiatus – American pop-punk band Paramore put out their new and sixth studio album “This is Why” which was released under Atlantic Records.
Lead vocalist Hayley Williams mentioned that the band wishes not to be perceived as a “nostalgia” band despite the reunion with bandmates Taylor York and Zac Farro; they turn to a new punk sound, rather than their previous music style.
She added that the album’s title track goes through a wide range of intense feelings, emotional ups, and downs – associated with the feeling of recurring anxiety, hearing voices in one’s head, paranoia, surviving the pandemic, and living life after it. Though the lyricism is sprinkled with a little optimism, it expresses more rage toward the status quo of a messed-up society and a “dying” planet.
The collective’s expression of angst became from teenage rage to that of something which resonates with people in their 30s. Moreover, it is accompanied by furious drumming, edgy guitar notes, massive riffs, and meaningful & emotional lyrics.
After Laughter, which includes songs like “Hard Times” and “Rose-Colored Boy,” was Paramore’s last album as a group to be released in 2017. Since then, Williams has released her solo album, Petals for Armor, in 2020, while Farro has unveiled a variety of solo projects under the name Halfnoise.
