Pinoy artists to PDEA: Hands off our music, defend artistic freedom

  Members of the Concerned Artists of the Philippines (CAP) released their statement regarding PDEA’s proposal on banning Shanti Dope’s single “Amatz.”

  As stated on ABS-CBN News, CAP is founded by game-changing filmmaker and National Artist Lino Brocka. The warning was released last Friday on Facebook saying, “Hands off our music! Police the druglords, not our musicians! Defend artistic freedom!”

  They criticised the PDEA for acting as music critics and they believe that it is not their job to be a music critic neither to promote censorship and suppression of artistic expression.

  “Leave the cultural commentary to the musicians, the fans, and the public at large, instead, focus on your mandate to jail the big druglords who still roam free.”

  It was also last Thursday when PDEA described the lyrics as promoting the use of marijuana then days later, Shanti Dope’s camp denied PDEA’s claim and reiterate the meaning of the song.
